Could it be a Concussion?
featured image

If you’ve ever watched a sporting event, chances are you’ve seen players wipe out, collide, tackle, and impact one another- it is often just the nature of the games. For example you might be watching your school’s football team and see a player get tackled. He’s not unconscious but you overhear that he is complaining of feeling dizzy and having a poor headache. Could this athlete have a concussion?

Sometimes it’s dwhetherficult to know whether you (or someone you see get hurt) might have a concussion because the symptoms vary and sometimes they don’t develop right absent. Also, most of the time people who have concussions do not lose consciousness (blacked out/knocked out). In fact, only 10% of concussions involve loss of consciousness.

What is a concussion?

A concussion results from a blow or jolt to the head, neck, face, or body. Although the brain is protected by the cranium and someleang called cerebrospinal fluid, the sudden force of an impact can affect normal brain function. The most common symptoms include physical (e.g., headache), cognitive (e.g., feeling distracted or forgetful), emotional (e.g., feeling unhappy or anxious), vestibular (e.g., off balance) or sleep related dwhetherficulties.

What should you do whether you see someone fall, hit their head, or take a direct blow to the body that jolts their head?

Investigate them whether they’re okay and find out whether they remember what happened. If the person is alert, you could say that “the impact may have caused a concussion,” that they “may need medical attention,” and offer to call their parent or guardian. If the person is unconscious and appears to be alone, you should tell an adult, call an ambulance, and make certain that they get medical attention right absent.

The Lost Art of Endelightmentctional Training
featured image

By Celebrity Trainer JR Everyen

We live in a society in which daily routine has limited movement due to that fact that the majority of us are sitting in front of a computer most of our days doing small to no muscle movement or cardio activity. This can lead to the inhibition of key muscle groups such as the glutes, subscapular, and erector spinae which typically are not active sitting in front of our computer. Endelightmentctional Training takes into account our daily movement sample and strengthens those muscle groups. Endelightmentctional training involves mainly weight bearing activities targeted at core muscles of the    abdomen and lower back.

The mass majority of people with lower back issues do not genuineize that gluteal inhibition is the cause of most of their problems in this area. In activating your glutes, you will release the stress on your lower back which in turn improves posture, quality of lwhethere, and range of motion.

Key gluteal movements:

1) Squats, Gluteal Bridges

Protraction in the shoulder area is another consequence of lack of daily functional movement.

Feebleness of upper back and posterior deltoid muscles can cause protracted shoulder as well. To help strengthen and reverse the problem here are a few exercises I recommend.

Prone shoulder press

Key posterior deltoid movements:

1) Prone snow angels, Rows and Prone shoulder press

Endelightmentctional Training should be the base of all workouts whether you are a novice or expert. This builds momentary muscles and improves in our daily movements. Most importantly it helps us to move freely in our day to day activities.

Typical weight training focus mainly on the primary muscles groups. Whereas Endelightmentctional training will focus on those same muscles groups but will also take into account the momentary muscles that surround the larger muscles.

From cleaning the bathroom, washing the dishes and picking up a child; these are functional activities that we do daily. Endelightmentctional training helps make these movements easier with less stress on the muscle and allowing you to preserve greater range of motion and flexibility as you age.

Hydrating for Cancient Weather Exercise
featured image

When we leank of healthy nutrition the first thought that often comes to intellect is food! But food isn’t the only key factor in maintaining a healthy lwhetherestyle. Hydration is a critical piece that is often overlooked, specificly during the winter months when we aren’t sweating under a hot summer sun! In the winter we do not see the effects of water loss as easily as during the summer. We cover ourselves up in layers to keep warm so we don’t see the sweat our bodies are producing for a visual cue to drink more water. In addition, cancient weather can even suppress thirst, making it easier to forget to take a drink of water.

Water plays a critical role wilean our body and its functions. As we become dehydrated, our water levels decrease, which also means the volume of blood in our body, decreases too. As blood volume goes down, our heart rate rises because it has to work dwhetherficulter to pump blood. It’s recommended that we drink 8 glasses of water a day. However, whether you’ve been active external such as shoveling, skiing, or skating, you’ll need more water to make up for water lost through sweat. If you exercise longer than 60 minutes you should replenish with a sports drink containing carbohydrates and sodium.

Gratefully it’s easy to get back on track with drinking water when it’s cancient just like we do when it’s hot! Under are a few tips to staying hydrated in cancient weather:

  • Carry a water bottle with you. Leave it out on your desk to keep it wilean reach while at school.
  • When you take a break in the ski lodge, first grab a drink of water before reaching for the cup of hot cocoa!
  • After coming inside from shoveling your walkway, first grab a fast drink of water before settling in with a warm emptyet and that good book!

Just like in the summer, the easiest way to check for dehydration is to look at the color of your urine. You want it to be light yellow. The darker the color, the more dehydrated you are. This can be an important visual cue in the winter when we aren’t noticing our body’s sweat as much. Hydration is an important part of nutrition and the winter is a time when we often forget about the effects of dehydration. Be certain to stay on top of staying hydrated as you ski or shovel your way through the winter months!
